Miss the Point, my 2024 Construct Jam entry
My submission for the 2024 Construct Jam
The theme was ESSCCCAAAALLLLLAAAAAATTTTTTTIIIIIIIIOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNN
If you haven’t played the game yet Go check it out!
I had a rocky start on this one, first I wasn’t sure if I want to enter at all, but when I finally did decided to enter, 1 or 2 days had already passed.
After that I spend another 2 days working on a completely different game idea which I eventually dropped because I wasn’t sure how to make it fun within the remaining time, I also had some technical difficulties which meant I would have needed to rework the entire movement system.
That first attempt was called Excavation Escalation, here is a short video of it.
The technical difficulties almost made me quit the Jam, but I woke up the next day with the idea to just simply make a Platformer with escalating difficulty.
A simple idea with a small scope to make up for the lost time.
From that point onward things just fell into place and I had a great time developing this short game. I had the gameplay loop done in the first day of working on the game, everything from that point onward was play testing, optimizing, polishing, and finishing.
Shout-out to the g.o.g. crew for play testing, the game would’ve been awful without it.
Miss the Point
Can you make it to the end by missing all the pointy bits?

I absolutely love the art style, congrats!!
any hints on the effects you used in construct to achieve them?
Thank you :)
Sure, I used horizontal/vertical blur + AlphaRamp, that’s it. If you want to save on resources you could also make blurred art assets, but for a Jam it’s quicker and more flexible with effect blur.
